Leah has had an exciting first 2 weeks of life. She has almost regained her birth weight and continues to be a great sleeper and eater. The boys aren't too sure what to do with her yet, but they do enjoy looking at her and they think she is super cute. They have also been very helpful - mostly with fetching stuff for everyone, but that has been such a huge help.
The night before Leah was born, the boys had their 3rd Grade Play/Musical. This year's theme was a Melodrama. We didn't know about the play until the week before and found out then that Ryan had a special part (which he only recently told me that he auditioned for 3 times) and Luke was part of the song leader group. Luke spotted me and Greg in the audience in the picture above - he is such a joyful and funny boy.
Ryan played the role of Mr. Nasty - the town villain who schemed to woo the sad maiden away from the hero sheriff. He ate the role up - he loved that the audience had to boo at him. He's enrolled in a drama program with a local theater company for the semester - he really loves to perform and is not afraid to be in front of a crowd.
My parents drove from Texas the day Leah arrived. They got to the hospital at about 4:30 that afternoon (they only stopped twice along the way) and were disappointed and a bit surprised that she was not yet here. My mom had quick labors for all 3 of her kids, so I think that was what they were hoping for (especially my dad). After a visit we sent them home to take care of Ryan and Luke and make sure that things that things would be as normal as possible for them. My dad left about a week after Leah was born and my mom has stayed to help while I recover and get used to the routine of taking care of 3 kids. Fortunately she has been willing to stay longer since Greg's travel schedule has resumed and he will be gone quite a bit over the next 2-3 weeks. Thankfully I'm not working and should be able to handle it on my own, but I still need some adjustment time to taking care of a newborn (which always takes longer than you think) and getting the boys to school and activities each day.

I will post pictures of Leah's room soon. My parents were instrumental in much of it. My dad repainted her crib (it had been one of the boys' and had been chewed up by them) and built an adorable tree bookcase. My mom helped me pick out the fabric for her bedding, and my Aunt Jane made her quilt. It is a sweet little room that I think will grow with her as she gets older.
A few days after Leah was born, my mom and I attempted our own newborn photo shoot. I have seen from photographers' websites that sessions last 2-3 hours and are best in the first few days of a baby's life. I can now see why they last that long. We spent 95% of our time working on getting Leah sleepy and content enough to lay her in various positions. We brought a space heater to her room to try and keep her comfortable - but she wasn't a big fan of no clothes. Most of the pictures were awful, but I got the one at the top and the one below that made it worth it.
Davis was pretty fascinated in what we were doing. He has really enjoyed laying in the sun on her rug for the last few weeks. He isn't too sure why this baby has invaded his space.
Our long time friends from college, Tim and Stephanie, came to visit us the day we came home from the hospital. They have both been a part of the boys' lives since they were infants and we all lived in Texas. They now live in Colorado and while we don't see them often enough, it is still great to get together - especially with how our families have grown in such a short time. We get a picture of all the kids when we are together - starting with one of Ryan and Luke with McKenna when she was a baby.
Ryan and Luke have been great with Leah. They aren't super hands on yet, but they are willing to jump in and help when needed.
Here they are consoling and "shushing" her to calm her down for a picture. They got her to sleep very quickly.
Sweet brothers with their baby sister.
We got a good bit of snow last weekend. We are expecting a foot this weekend, as well. The boys had a great time on Monday building snowmen and sledding down the little hill in our backyard.
Luke built a snowman to sled with.
Ryan tried to sled with his snowman, but his head fell off on the way down.
